Masami Foods and Masami Ranch were inspired by Masami Ishida's big dream. When Masami was young, he ran a small butcher shop in Osaka, Japan. There, a supermarket president heard about the popularity of his products and invited Masami to work with him. Together, they accomplished many important things, including establishing a safer, more stable supply of beef products. In April 1974, Masami established a ranch and processing plant in Miyazaki, Japan. He was one of the first to introduce the idea of "Ranch to Table" and sold his beef to supermarkets all over Japan. Later, he came to the United States in search of a vast area of land that could provide a safer, tastier, and more stable beef supply for Japanese consumers. He started Masami Cattle Ranch in 1988 in Northern California, and Masami Foods was started a few years later in 1992.
In June 1988, Masami Ishida established Masami Cattle Ranch. The Ranch is located on 6,500 acres in beautiful Northern California and raises Wagyu bulls, cows, and calves. We use a Japanese breeding method, making us one of the few ranches in the United States that runs a Wagyu and Angus breeding program. We have a fattening facility here at the Ranch, but we do not use any antibiotics, growth hormones, or animal feeds. The animals are carefully hand-fed, and we supply our own special all-natural, grain-mixed feed. To prevent stress on the calves, we handle feedings from the time they are born until they are grown and continue to raise them with care, daily managing the health of each cow. It is essential to avoid moving animals to other facilities to reduce unnecessary stress, so all breeding is consistently done here at Masami Cattle Ranch. In addition, the Ranch shares feed formulations with our parent company in Japan. This collaboration allows us to research new methods, improve our feed, and ensure that our animals continue to receive the best care possible.
In March 1992, Masami Ishida established a food processing plant in Klamath Falls, Oregon. For many years, our business focused on providing American beef and pork to consumers in Japan. However, we are excited to announce that beginning in 2022, we will shift to providing a stable supply of Masami Wagyu beef and Masami beef to the domestic market in the United States.
